There are a few spaces left on my 5 week embroidery course starting this evening in Hitchin hosted by @thestudiotnumber30

Over the 5 weeks, I will take you through a range of outline, filler, and textural stitches that can be used in a variety of embroidery projects. Although aimed at garment makers who wish to add some unique features to their wardrobe, this course is perfect for anyone wishing to learn embroidery.

7 - 9pm St Michael's Community Centre, Hitchin

Starts tonight (22nd April) and runs for 5 weeks

All materials included plus access to a private whatsapp group for the duration of the course for additional support.

Last week, the group were shown how to design, carve, and print lino blocks onto fabric. This week we added colour and texture using embroidery.

You might be surprised at how few tools you actually need to get started! I remember packing for a trip to the south of France and wanting a portable, creative project. Turns out, hand embroidery is perfect! All you really need is:

🪡 A good needle: I recommend a size 5-9 for beginners. (Psst... I even include a size 5 and a chenille needle in my kits for easy threading!)

🧵 Quality embroidery thread: Think vibrant six-strand cotton floss. Trust me, the difference between good and cheap thread is HUGE. Save yourself the tangles and invest in brands like DMC or Anchor.

✂️ Sharp embroidery scissors: Not just any scissors! You need those thin, sharp blades for precise cuts. And let's be honest, a pretty pair makes it even more fun!

⭕️ A sturdy embroidery hoop: Keeps your fabric taut and your stitches even. Wooden is my favorite, but plastic works too. Remember, you get what you pay for.

💛 The perfect fabric: Linen, cotton, or calico are great choices. All of my embroidery kits are printed on 100% cotton making them perfect for combining with patchwork or applique projects.
